Abstract

Background: Short-term soft liner or also called tissue conditioner which found in fitting surface area, serve as cushioning for denture wearers to treat chronic pain problems. When the material is used, it will always in contact with liquids, such as saliva and denture cleaning solutions. It can increase on water sorption which will affect the mechanical properties and function of the soft liner. Therefore, these impacts can be removed with natural alternative material which is cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmanii). It contains cinnamaldehyde which can act as an antibacterial and antifungal. Aim: To evaluate the effect of time immersion in cinnamon extract (Cinnamomum burmannii) on the water sorption of soft liner. Methode: 24 samples made of short-term soft liner with a dimension of 15 mm x 2 mm. Samples were divided into 6 groups, that was immersed in alkaline peroxide, immersed in 1.5% cinnamon extract and immersed in distilled water for 7 and 14 days. Water sorption of soft liner were tested by placing the samples in a desiccator, then weighing, then immer and reweighing on days 7 and 14. Data was analyzed using One-way ANOVA and LSD Post-Hoc test. Result: The mean water sorption was found higest on alkaline peroxide group fo 7 and 14 days of immersion followed 1.5% cinnamon extract group for 7 days and 14 days. There was a statistically significant difference found between all test group (p<0,05). Conclusion: There was an effect on time immersion in cinnamon extract solution on the water sorption of soft liner materials.
