Abstract

Students in tertiary institutions are prone to experiencing stress caused by pressure and academic demands (academic stressors) that they cannot overcome. One of the academic demands of students is to complete a thesis or final assignment. Students who experience stress when compiling their thesis can carry out stress coping strategies to reduce the stress. This study aims to determine the factors that influence coping stress strategy in students of the Faculty of Public Health, University of Sriwijaya who are writing their thesis. The design of this study is descriptive correlation with a quantitative approach and cross sectional design. The research sample consisted of 78 students who experienced stress during thesis writing. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The analysis technique used is univariate, bivariate (Spearman rank correlation) and multivariate (multiple linear regression) analysis. The study found that the level of Coping Stress Strategy for students of the Faculty of Public Health, Sriwijaya University who were preparing their thesis was in the good category (53.8%). It was found that there was significant and positive relationshipa between emotional intelligence (r = 0.363), optimism (r = 0.487), hardiness personality (r = 0.478) and social support (r = 0.476) with coping stress student strategies.
