Abstract

Pain experienced by arthritis sufferers often recurs and if not done proper management will interfere with daily activities, can even cause disability. Pain management in patients with arthritis can be done with non-pharmacological therapy by giving warm compresses combined with herbal plants. This study aims to find out whether there is a comparison of pain intensity after being given warm compress therapy of red ginger and lemongrass in patients with arthritis. The method used in this study is Pre Experimental Design using One Group Pre test Post test design. The population in this study is arthritis sufferers in the working area of the Indralaya Health Center amounting to 1,481 people. The sampling technique in this study used purpossive sampling with a total of 19 respondents in each group of warm compresses of red ginger and lemongrass. The instruments in this study used a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) questionnaire to measure pain scales before and after the intervention. The results of statistical analysis in both groups using the Independent T Test showed that warm compresses of red ginger with lemongrass had a significant ratio of pain intensity after intervention with a p value of 0.005. The results of this study show that the provision of warm compresses of red ginger and lemongrass can reduce pain so it is recommended for arthritis sufferers and health workers to apply warm compresses of red ginger and lemongrass when pain arises with the right composition.
