Abstract

The habit of of consuming excess snack foods will have an impact on the nutritional status of adolescents. Data from Riskesdas South Sumatra for 2018 also shows that Palembang City is the city with the 8th highest prevalence of overnutrition in adolescents aged 13-15 in South Sumatra. The purpose of this study to determine the relationship between the amount of allowance and the consumption of snacks with the nutritional status of adolescents at SMP Negeri 52 Palembang City. This research is an observational study with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study were all teenagers at SMP Negeri 52 Palembang. The sample size in this study was 144 adolescents at SMP Negeri 52 Palembang. Samples were taken using the proportional sampling technique. Data collection techniques using a questionnaire instrument. Data analysis was performed with univariate and bivariate analysis. The results showed that the average amount of allowance for teenagers at SMP Negeri 52 52 Palembang was Rp. 9,920. In addition, as many as 110 teenagers (76.4%) have a habit of frequent snacks. There were 32 teenagers (22.2%) who had more nutritional status and 6 teenagers (4.2%) who had less nutritional status. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between allowance (p value 0.001) and snack food consumption (p value = 0.031) and the nutritional status of adolescents at SMP Negeri 52 Palembang City. The conclusion in this study is that there is a relationship between allowance and snack food consumption with the nutritional status of adolescents. Suggestions for schools are recommended to promote nutrition regarding the nutritional content of snack foods.
