Abstract
Rainfall simulator is a device used to create artificial rain to support variations of rainfall intensity and duration of rainfall variations automatically. Variation of pressure used was 2.5 psi, 3 psi, 3.5 psi, 4 psi, 4.5 psi, 5 psi, 5.5 psi, 6 psi, and 6.5 psi. Parameters used to study about the performance of rainfall simulator are rainfall intensity, the diameter of the raindrops, rain mass, rain droplets fail speed, and kinetic energy. It uses the evaluation of the performance of rainfall simulator with uniformity coefficient (UC) and distribution uniformity (DU). The results showed that the relationship between pressure and rainfall parameters is linear. Thus, pressure and rainfall parameters have a very close relationship. Research tool with opening quarter rainfall simulator can be used to assess the intensity of rainfall in the area of Kenten, Palembang city because rainfall that occurs in the opening quarter of a rainfall simulator tools and area of Kenten are classified as the areas that have light rain to heavy rain. Uniformity coefficient has a minimum value of 96.33% and the uniformity of the distribution has a minimum value of 93.39%. So the rainfall simulator tool in Hydro Laboratory Department of Civil Engineering University of Sriwijaya had used a good performance because it has a coefficient of uniformity above 80% and above 70% distribution uniformity (Blanquies et al. 2007).
