Abstract

Non-Protein Nitrogen (NPN) is an effort to increase the digestibility of fibrous feed. The use of NPN is the effort chosen because it is cheap and easy to digest and converted by livestock into protein. The rate of degradation of feed ingredients in the rumen can be used to determine the nutrient utilization of a feed ingredient. The degradation of protein in feed ingredients is an important factor when assessing the value of feed ingredients according to modern ruminant feed evaluation systems. The purpose of this study was to study the characteristics of the degradation of dry matter, organic matter and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of elephant grass with the addition of Ruminofrass NPN in sacco. This study used Bali cattle that had a cannula installed in the rumen, hereinafter referred to as fistula cattle. The prepared samples were put into nylon bags and incubated in fistula cattle at 0, 6, 12, 18, 24 and 48 hours. Then measured the rate of degradation of Elephant Grass Dry Matter (BK). This study used a descriptive analysis and was carried out in sacco with 2 treatments and 6 replications. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that treatment with the addition of Ruminofrass NPN at the initial incubation period of 18 hours was able to improve the digestibility characteristics of elephant grass BO. Suggestions for further research are to increase the number of fistula livestock so that the effectiveness of adding Ruminofrass NPN can be tested with a more comprehensive research design.
