Abstract

The expansive clay soil has low carrying capacity and is very influenced to water content. It is very harmful when used as the base subgrade material to prop up the construction. To overcome this problem needs a reconstruction or soil stabilization. One way to stabilization soil is by adding palm bunch ash and Portland cement to the expansive clay soil. Therefore, in study will find the soil shear strength value and qult by using triaxial test. The stages is the research include study of literature, disturbed soil sampling, data collection in the lab, analyzing the result of the calculation of cohesion value, friction angle, shear strength value, and qult value with palm bunch ash and Portland cement composition 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% also 3, 7 and 14 days as the treatment periode. From the result and analyzing the calculation,5 it be concluded that fifteen variations of composition palm bunch ash and Portland have cohesion value change, friction angle, shear strength value, and qult value with the condition without mix compositions. Optimum shear strength value on the variation of 5% palm bunch ash and 5% Portland cement with 14 days treatment periode is 6.231 kg/cm . And optimum qult value on the variation of 5% palm bunch ash and 10% Portland cement with 14 days treatment period is 62.93 kg/cm2.
