Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder that causes an increase in blood sugar levels. One of the most influential risk factors is an unhealthy diet, so dietary compliance is needed for people with diabetes mellitus to maintain stable blood sugar levels. Implementation of dietary compliance in people with diabetes mellitus is a multifactorial matter. This study aims to determine the relationship between age, gender, length of illness, family support, health worker support, motivation, perception, self-confidence, education, and knowledge of dietary compliance. The research design is cross-sectional, with a research instrument in the form of a questionnaire. The sample for this study was 94 people with diabetes mellitus type II who were outpatients at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital using the purposive sampling technique. The results of the chi square test found that the factors associated with dietary adherence in type II diabetes mellitus were education (p value = 0.032), knowledge (p value = 0.000), perception (p value = 0.042), motivation (p value = 0.003), duration of diabetes mellitus II (p value = 0.022), participation in nutrition counseling (p value = 0.016), family support (p value = 0.035), and support from health workers (p value = 0.025). The results of the logistic regression test found that the factors that most influenced dietary compliance in people with type II diabetes mellitus were knowledge (p value = 0.000), motivation (p value = 0.011), and length of time suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus (p value = 0.026). Based on the research results, it was found that the factors that most influence diet compliance in people with type II diabetes mellitus are knowledge, motivation, and length of illness.
