Abstract

The state of malnutrition and growth retardation in infants aged 6 to 12 months can be caused by the habit of giving breast milk complementary food that is not appropriate and mother’s ignorance about the benefits and how to giving breast milk complementary food properly. Therefore, the mother’s knowledge and attitude play a very important role because knowledge about breast milk complementary food feeding and a good attitude in giving breast milk complementary food can support the growth and development of children optimally. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes of the mother and the behavior of the mother in the appropriateness of giving breast milk complementary food to children aged 6-12 months in the work area of the Sukajadi Public Health Center in Prabumulih City. The study is a quantitative study with a cross sectional approach. Sample retrieval tehchniques are purposive sampling with inclusion and exsclusion criteria. The sample in this study was mothers who had children aged 6-12 month in the work area of the Sukajadi Public Health Center and had 50 people. The analysis data used in univariate and bivariate analysis. The bivariate analysis in this study used the chi-square test. The result showed that most respondents had a good level of knowledge (64%), and most respondents had a positive attitude (76%) and there was as many (66%) mothers who had the right in giving breast milk complementary food. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between mothers’s knowledge (p-value 0,001) and mother’s attitude (p-value < 0,001) with the behavior of giving breast milk complementary food to children aged 6-12 months in the work area of the Sukajadi Health Center in Prabumulih city.
