Abstract

Background: Stroke is a rapid loss of brain function due to disruption of blood supply to the brain. Hypertension is the main trigger factor for stroke. Foot massage is one of the interventions given to stroke patients to help reduce high blood pressure. Foot massage can provide a feeling of relaxation because the massage will release the substances serotonin, histamine, bradykinin and cause capillary, atrioal, microcirculation improvements to blood vessels resulting in a stable decrease in blood pressure. Objective: Applying nursing care to stroke patients with foot massage intervention. Method: The method used is qualitative research with a case study approach to 3 stroke patients. Results: There were six nursing problems that emerged in the three managed cases, namely decreased intracranial adaptive capacity, ineffective peripheral perfusion, impaired physical mobility, impaired verbal communication, risk of falls and risk of aspiration and in one patient there was a nursing problem of acute pain. Implementation is given for 4 days. Discussion: The foot massage given can activate nerve sensors in the feet resulting in vasodilation of blood vessels and lymph which affects blood flow to increase, blood circulation becomes smooth. Conclusion: Foot massage intervention carried out for 4 days resulted in changes in reducing blood pressure in stroke patients.
