Abstract

HEALTH IN THE FIELD OF ARCHITECTURE GENERALLY TAKES THE FORM OF SOMETHING FORMAL AND CLINICAL WHICH EMPHASIZES NEEDS AND IMPERATIVES. WITH THE INCREASE IN MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS (AND THE PHYSICAL ONES ASSOCIATED WITH THEM) THE NEED FOR MENTAL HEALTH FACILITIES IS EXPERIENCING A PARADIGM SHIFT IN ARCHITECTURE THAT CHALLENGES THE NORM OF HEALTH ASPECTS AS CLINICAL OR FORMAL SPACES. THE CREATION OF THE HEALTH TOURISM BUILDING TYPOLOGY BY THE BATAM CITY GOVERNMENT TOGETHER WITH THE SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT FOCUSES ON INTEGRATING ASPECTS OF HEALTH AND TOURISM, IN A DESIGN EFFORT THAT GOES BEYOND CONVENTIONAL BOUNDARIES TO OFFER GUESTS A HOLISTIC WELLNESS EXPERIENCE IN AN ATTRACTIVE AND IMMERSIVE ENVIRONMENT. THE DESIGN CONCEPT USES THE CONCEPT OF HEALTH ARCHITECTURE OR WELLNESS ARCHITECTURE WHICH FOCUSES ON THE WELFARE AND HEALTH OF USERS IN NON-CLINICAL AND THERAPEUTIC ASPECTS. THE DESIGN TAKES SEVERAL THEORIES PUT FORWARD BY AIA (AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECT) AND HMC ARCHITECT WITH POINTS IN THE FORM OF THE PRESENCE OF NATURE, THE PRESENCE OF WATER, ACTIVE DESIGN, PRIVACY, SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATION.
