Abstract
Pneumonia is an infectious disease which is a major cause of mortality in children under five years of age in the world. The appropriate therapy for pneumonia is antibiotics treatment. The rational use of antibiotics must meet several criteria, it is the precise patient, precise indication, precise medicine, precise dose, and minimum side effects. This study aims to evaluate the rationality of antibiotics for the treatment of pneumonia on children under five years of age in RSI Siti Khadijah Palembang Period 2016. This research used descriptive analysis method and the data is done retrospectively based on medical records of patients. The data obtained are 41 samples that meet the inclusion criteria with the proportion of 76% male and 24% female. The antibiotics therapy used are ceftriaxone (49%), ceftazidime (22%), meropenem (13%), ampicillin (7%), ampicillin-gentamicin (5%), cefotaxime (2%), and chloramphenicol (2%). The rational use of antibiotics were found as 100% precise patient, 100% precise indication, 100% precise drug, 85% precise dose, and 100% of patients had no side effects. The use of rationally antibiotic is 35 patients (85%) of the 41 patients.
