Abstract

The availability of forage for livestock is currently limited; this occurs because many forage planting areas have been converted into residential and industrial areas, so animal feed cannot be provided optimally, as well as the influence of the season, which affects the availability of forage. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to look for alternative feed sources that come from swamp forage with the addition of legumes as a protein source, which are processed using silage techniques to ensure that the feed remains continuously available and has good nutritional value. This research aims to determine the effect of using Indigofera sp. leaves on the physical quality of Hymenachne acutigluma silage. This research consisting of 4 treatments and 4 repetitions. The treatment in this study was Indigofera, which consisted of treatments A0 = control, A1 = Hymenachne acutigluma + Indigofera sp 10%, A2 = Hymenachne acutigluma + Indigofera sp 20%, and A3 = Hymenachne acutigluma + Indigofera sp 30% with a storage time of 21 days at room temperature. Data is processed and analyzed using descriptive statistical processing. The results of the research show that the combination of Indigofera sp leaves in making Hymenachne acutigluma silage can improve the physical quality of the silage. The color of the silage produced by A0 and A1 is yellowish green, A2 and A3 are brownish yellow, the aroma produced by treatments A0 and A1 is typical of fermentation, A2 and A3 are slightly sour, and a firm texture is obtained like fresh forage in treatments A0 and A1 and is smooth and does not clump. The lowest temperature was in treatment A1, and the highest was in treatment A3, namely 27.75 and 29°C. The lowest pH was in treatment A0 and the highest in treatment A3, namely 3.9 and 4.8, and the lowest presence of fungus was in treatment A0, namely 0%, and the highest in treatment A2, namely 2.18%. The conclusion of this research is that the combination of Indigofera sp leaves and Hymenachne acutigluma can improve the physical quality of silage
