Abstract

Corn (Zea Mays) is the second important food crop after rice. Corn becomes a strategic food as an effort to diversify food because it contains a source of carbohydrates such as rice, where many processed corn acyl in the form of flour is a food product. Corn production is increasing, this shows that the increasing national corn production target means trying to create new varieties of corn that are superior in both quality and quantity. One way to obtain a new high-yielding variety is Through crossbreeding or hybridization. The purpose of this research is to determine the growth and production of sweet corn varieties Bonanza, Bimmo, Golden Boy and the accession of purple corn, as well as obtain F1 generation seeds from the crossing of these plants. The research was carried out in collaboration with farmers on Tamyiz Street, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, from July to October 2023. This study used a random group design consisting of three crossblocks, each sweet corn variety planted in a row interspersed with three purple corn plants with a planting distance of 80 x 25 cm. Data analysis was carried out using the SAS (Statistical Analysis System) program using Anova test analysis (divesity analysis) with F table at α 5%. If it is different, the smallest real difference (BNT) 5% is carried out. The observed variables are plant height aged 40 days, plant height aged 45 days, plant height aged 50 days, plant height aged 55 day the height of the cob's location, the flowering age of the male, the flowering age of the female, the length of the cob, the diameter of the cob, the weight of the cob, the weight of the dry seed, the color of the cob, the color of the seed and the shape of the seed. Crossing is done naturally in a natural way (Natural crossing) with sweet corn varieties as female elders and purple corn as male elders. Crosses are done by detasseling, which is to remove male flowers from all varieties of sweet corn by cutting. The results showed different growth values and characteristics and obtained F1 generation seeds from crosses
