Abstract

Background: Hajj is one of the obligatory rituals for financially and physically capable Muslims. Hypertension is the second most prevalent disease among Indonesian Hajj pilgrims and can pose health risks during the pilgrimage. This study aims to identify factors influencing hypertension to reduce its prevalence among Hajj pilgrims. The study included 223 prospective Hajj pilgrims as research samples. Methods: The research design employed was descriptive analytical with a cross-sectional approach. The population comprised prospective Hajj pilgrims in the Sematang Borang Primary Health Center in Palembang City who underwent the second-stage examination using total sampling technique, and the data were secondary from the results of the second-stage examination. Data analysis involved univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses using chi-square tests and logistic regression tests. The analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for Social Science version 27. Result: The study revealed that 124 (55.6%) prospective Hajj pilgrims suffered from hypertension, while 99 (44.4%) were non-hypertensive. Factors influencing hypertension were age (p=0.000), education (p=0.002), and physical fitness (p=0.000), with physical fitness (p=0.000) being the most influential, followed by education (p=0.010). Conclusion: The most influential factors for hypertension among prospective Hajj pilgrims in the Sematang Borang Primary Health Center in 2023 are physical fitness followed by education.
