Abstract

This research aims to compare the financial performance of sharia commercial banks in ASEAN and Middle East countries based on the maqashid sharia index approach. Where the financial performance of a bank reflects the bank's financial position in collecting and accumulating funds within a certain period of time. The maqashid sharia index is an analytical tool to determine the performance of sharia banking from the perspective of sharia values. The research method used is a quantitative approach, using comparative analysis. There were 23 Islamic banks used as samples in this research. The 23 banks consist of 11 banks from ASEAN and 12 banks from the Middle East. The results of this research state that there is no difference in the Maqashid Index value for Islamic banks in ASEAN and the Middle East in 2018-2021 using the PMMS method. Meanwhile, using the MPEM method, there are differences in the Maqashid Index values for Islamic banks in ASEAN and the Middle East in 2018-2021.
