Abstract

Mangosteen peel extract has an alfa-mangosteen compound that can accelerate cell healing by stimulating fibroblast growth, thus providing effects as an antiinflammatory and antimicrobial. The choice of transdermal patch dosage form for mangosteen peel extract aims to effectively deliver active substances through the skin to reach the systemic. The purpose of this study was to obtain a formula with the best plasticizer concentration in the transdermal patch preparation of mangosteen peel extract on open wound healing. Patches were made by using the solvent coasting method in 3 formulas namely FI, FII, and FIII with variations in sorbitol concentration of 10%, 15%, and 20%. The best formula result obtained 20% sorbitol concentration in FIII which produced patches with smooth, elastic, and transparent surfaces. In addition, the patch produced weight uniformity of 33.667 mg, thickness of 0.059 mm, percent elongation of 93,038%, swelling of 693,77%, and humidity of 3.228%. The results of the content uniformity were obtained of 100.016% ± 0,014%. The results of the stability test showed that the organoleptic characteristics produced were good, with levels produced in the 6th cycle of 100.008 organoleptically produced well after the stability test with the resulting content in the 6th cycle of 100.008% ± 0.010%. The best penetration test results produced an average cumulative % penetrated of 32.057% and J of 105.911 µg/cm-2 /h-1 . FTIR test resulted in the interaction of chitosan and sodium alginate at wave numbers 3288.56 cm-1. Based on the results of the study, it is concluded that the transdermal patch of mangosteen peel extract has good characteristics, stability, penetration of the preparation in formula III, and chemical interaction of the patch which is characterized by the presence of hydrogen bonds with high intensity.
