Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is a disorder of the fat metabolism system which causes an increase in total cholesterol, LDL, triglyceride levels and a decrease in blood HDL. Catechin is the main compound from gambier leaves, including flavonoid compounds which can reduce hyperlipidemia. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of administering self-nano emulsion from gambier leaf extract on lipid profiles, oxidative stress and liver microanatomy in mice. This research is experimental with a Post Test Only Control Group Design with One Way ANOVA test. The samples used were 30 male Wistar rats divided into six groups, namely normal group, negative control (induced by high fat food and propylthiouracil), positive control (induced by high fat food, propylthiouracil and simvastatin), group 1 (induced by high fat food and propylthiouracil and SNE), group 2 (induced by high fat feed and propylthiouracil and SNE gambier leaf extract), group 3 (induced by high fat feed and propylthiouracil, gambier leaf extract). The lipid profile parameters observed in this study were total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL and LDL levels. The oxidative stress parameter is MDA levels. The results of the research conducted showed that SNE gambier leaf extract at a dose of 40 mg/kgBW showed a reduction in cholesterol levels of 92.81 mg/dl, triglycerides 92.11 mg/dl, HDL 59.86 mg/dl, LDL 38.99 mg/dl. dl, and MDA 3.24 nmol/ml. Based on the ANOVA test, there were differences in the average levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL and MDA between the test groups. Microanatomical histopathological observations of the liver can repair damage to the liver with mild necrosis.
