Abstract

The objectives of this research were to identity and to analyze the factors that influence farmers to choose Hybrid Sweet Corn Cultivation, and to identity dominant factor that influence farmers to cultivate hybrid sweet corn. The data were collected in March until Mei 2007. The method used in this research was a case study on farmers in Bakung Village North Indralaya District Ogan Ilir Regency by grouping the farmers who cultivated Hybrid Sweet Corn and the farmers who cultivated Bisi 8 Hybrid. This research used Disproportionate Stratified Random Sampling. Samples consisted of 15 farmers who cultivated hybrid sweet corn from 60,83% of population and 15 farmers who cultivated Bisi 8 hybrid from 39,17 % population. The data were appeared in tabulations with chi square test and was explained descriptively. The rcsulls on this research showed that the factors that influenced farmers to choose Hybrid Sweet Corn Cultivation were Capital, relative advantage and higher selling price. Bascd on the chi scjuarc tesi, the factors that influenced farmers to choose Hybrid Sweet Corn Cultivation such as, cost produetion with 4,82 calculated, relative advantage with 4,82 calculated, and selling price with 10,99 calculated. Whilc the farming size did not influenced farmers to choose Hybrid Sweet Com C'iltivation. The dominant factor that influenced farmers to choose Hybrid Sweet Corn Cultivation was cost production. i
