Abstract

Hydrogen is the simplest chemical element with one proton and one electron and hydrogen is colorless, odorless, non-metallic and a highly flammable gas. The purpose of this study was to find out and analyze experiments on piping systems that use hydrogen gas fluids and the use of 2 types of valves against flow losses. This research uses experimental methods, by making direct observations to obtain causal data through experiments. In the test, using variations of valve openings 1/2, 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4l. From the test results, the largest discharge is shown at the 4/4 opening of the gate valve with 0.0014 m3 /s and 0.0013 m3 /s on the ball valve. From the calculation results for the highest major head losses on the gate valve is the 4/4 opening with 427.84 m and the highest minor head losses with 8538.2 m. while for the ball valve type, the highest major head losses value with 397.27 m and minor head losses with 3173.94 m. From the data obtained, the larger the valve opening, the bigger it is major head losses and minor head losses.
