Abstract

The quality of semen is one of the success rate of artificial Insemination program (IB) in goat cattle. The quality of semen were determined by volume, pH, concentration and motility. The factors that affects of the quality of semen are age, genetics, temperature and season, ejaculation frequency, feed and weight. The purpose of this research is to compare the quality of semen between Boer goat and Ettawa Crossbread goat. This research was conducted at Balai Inseminasi Buatan Lembang, Bandung from August to September 2017. Datas were analyzed by T test. The parameters observed were volume of semen, pH of semen, semen concentration and motility of semen. The results showed that Boer goat volume 2.40 ± 0.23 ml per ejaculation and Ettawa Crossbread goat 2.24 ± 0.35 ml per ejaculation. pH Ettawa Crossbread goat 6.78 ± 0.45 and Boer goat pH 6.72 ± 0.03. Ettawa Crossbread Goat concentration were 2553.51 ± 492.52 million sperm per ml and Boer goat were 2298.11 ± 392.34 million sperm per ml. the motility of Boer goat were 58.39 ± 10.46 % and Ettawa Crossbread goat were 57.43 ± 29.07 %. The conclusion of comparison the quality of semen between Boer goat and Ettawa Crossbread goat is the quality of semen influenced by motility of semen, while the volume of semen, pH of semen and semen concentration does not affect the quality of semen.
