Abstract

Nutritional status and nutritional knowledge are the main factors in determining whether menarche occurs sooner or later in adolescent girls. A teenage girl's nutritional intake will affect the body's growth hormones, in particular accelerating the maturity of reproductive hormones which can cause early menarche or normal menarche. Nutritional knowledge is considered to be the most important factor in influencing the nutritional status of adolescent girls. The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between nutritional knowledge and nutritional status with the age of menarche among adolescent girls at PGRI Middle School in Pagar Alam City. This research is quantitative with a cross sectional design. Data processing used statistical software programs and univariate and bivariate Chi- Square tests were carried out. This sample consisted of 62 people using a purposive sampling technique. Univariate results showed that 21 people (33.9%) lacked nutritional knowledge, 37 people (59.7%) had obesity nutritional status, 29 people (46.8%) had early menarche age. The results of the bivariate analysis of this study show that there is a relationship between knowledge and age of menarche in young women in 2023 (ρ=0.002). And there is a relationship between nutritional status and age of menarche in young women at PGRI Middle School in Pagar Alam City in 2023 (ρ=0.007). It is hoped that PGRI Middle Schools and health workers in the city of Pagar Alam will provide socialization in the form of animated media to female students regarding menstruation and good foods to consume before and after menstruation to avoid early menarche in young women.
