Abstract

The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of NAA on the growth of embryo of vanilla (Vanilla planifolia Andrews) by in vitro. This experiment was conducted from October 2005 to December 2005 in Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory of Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University, Inderalaya. This experiment was arranged according to Randomized Complete Block Design with four treatments. Those treatments were N0 (0,1 mg/1 NAA + 0,5 mg/1 Kinetin), Ni (0,5 mg/1 NAA), N2 (1,0 mg/1 NAA) and N3 (1,5 mg/1 NAA) that arranged in five replications. Immature embryos (40-60 days after pollination) was used as explant sources. The embryos were cultured on solid Zz MS (Murashige and Skoog). The result showed that the treatment of 0,5 mg/1 NAA tended to increase the number of germinated embryos, shoot and root, the height shoot and the highest percentages of explants which produce germinated, growth shoot and root. But the increased of NAA more than 0,5 mg/1 tends inhibited the growth of immature embryo of vanilla.
