Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of the Discovery Learning method on the ability to group spatial figures in group B children at the Pembina 1 Palembang State Kindergarten. This research uses a quantitative research approach with a pre-experimental type of research with a one shot case study design. The sampling technique used a purposive sample, namely class B2, totaling 20 children. This class contains various children's abilities in grouping spatial structures, such as children with low, moderate and good abilities so that they are considered capable of representing the population. Data collection techniques use observation and tests. The data analysis technique uses the normality test and the T test. The results of data analysis using the T test obtained a thitung value of 4.17 and in the t distribution table with a significance of 0.05 and degrees of freedom (dk) 19 to obtain a thitung value of 1.72. So the value of thitung 4.17 ≥ ttable 1.72 from the calculation results states that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. So it can be concluded that there is an influence of the Discovery Learning method on the ability to group spatial figures in group B children at the Pembina 1 Palembang State Kindergarten. The use of this discovery learning method makes children more active and creates a great sense of curiosity. In existing research, this method is widely used in elementary school students aged 7 years, middle school and high school, whereas in this research it focuses on early childhood where at that time children are still busy with the world called "play". Therefore, discovery learning is different from others and it is proven that there is an influence of the method with the ability to group young children where children can solve the problems given.
