Abstract

Based on data from the Indonesian health profile 2016, the percentage of exclusively breastfed infant was 29,5%. Meanwhile the expected target 50%. The situation illustrates the high practices of early weaning food given. The impact of early weaning food given isgastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhea, food allergies, respiratory infections, until a growth disorder.The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the provision of complementary feeding in infants aged less than 6 months (early weaning food given).This study used cross sectional design. Samples were mothers of infants aged 6-12 months in the village of Sakatiga, Tanjung Agung, Tanjung sejaro which selected by cluster random sampling.There are three variables associated with the provision of breastfeeding early employment status of mothers (p-value = 0.004), the adequacy of breastfeeding (p-value = 0.027) and the feeding technique (p-value = 0.028). There is no relationship knowledge (p-value = 0,781), parity (p-value = 0.356), education (p-value = 0.302), family support (p-value = 0.155) and attitude (p-value = 0.072) with of early weaning food given.The most dominant variable in this study was the status of mother's occupation, where working mothers at risk of 5.586 times higher procure early weaning food given compared with mothers who did not work after being controlled by the variable education, parity, knowledge, attitudes, family support, the adequacy of breastfeeding and feeding techniques. Lactating mothers should increased their knowledge about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, and weaning food given. Before giving the baby weaning food the mothers should consider the age and readiness of the baby to receive weaning food for the first time, for woking mothers exclusive beasfeed still can be provide by pumping the breast milk and stored and given to the baby later.
