Abstract

Social media is a means or place to interact with each other without having to meet face to face, to exchange ideas remotely and a means to access information from various parts of the world. This research uses quantitative research methods with a simple linear regression test method. The population of this research were all students of XI SMA Srijaya Negara Palembang, totaling 247 students, and the research sample was 153 students using the Slovin formula. Sampling uses random sampling technique by spin or lottery. The data collection technique uses a psychological scale of intensity of social media use with 25 statement items and a psychological scale of interest in learning with 28 statement items distributed via a Google form link. The results of this research show that the intensity of social media use among class XI students at SMA Srijaya Negara is in the medium category with a percentage of 73%. Then, the learning interest of class XI students at SMA Srijaya Negara Palembang is in the medium category with a percentage of 65%. After carrying out the Simple Linear Regression test, a significance value of 0.001 was obtained with a significance level of 5% (0.05). So the significant value is 0.001 < 0.05, which means that variable It is best that guidance and counseling services continue to be provided by guidance and counseling teachers to students to follow up on the use of social media in the school environment.
