Abstract

Kampung chickens have low productivity, so it is necessary to add feed additives such as antibiotics, however the use of antibiotics is prohibited regarding the residues produced, so an alternative is needed to replace natural antibiotics in livestock, one of which is an acidifier found in kandis acid. This study aims to determine the effect of the addition of kandis acid extract acidifier (Garcinia xanthochymus) in drinking water on the percentage of the weight of the small intestine digestive tract of kampung chickens. This research was conducted from August to October 2023 in the experimental cage of the Animal Husbandry Study Program, Department of Animal Husbandry Technology and Industry, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research method is an experimental one using 48 kampung chickens aged 4 months and reared for 2 months. The study consisted of 4 treatments and 6 replicates. The treatments given were P0 (Drinking water without treatment (control)), P1 (drinking water with Kandis acid extract pH 2.4), P2 (drinking water with Kandis acid extract pH 3.4), and P3 (drinking water with Kandis acid extract pH 4.4). The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA, if there is a real difference then it will be continued with Duncan's Multi Range (DMRT) further test. The parameters observed in this study are the percentage of small intestine weight (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum). The results of this study showed that the provision of kandis acid extract acidifier (Garcinia xanthochymus) in drinking water had no significant effect (P < 0.05) on the percentage of small intestine weight of kampung chickens but numerically increased the percentage of small intestine weight. The percentage of small intestine obtained was 2.06-2.56%, duodenum was 0.52-0.68%, jejunum was 0.72-0.84%, and ileum was 0.78-1.09% of the live weight. The conclusion of this study is that the provision of kandis acid extract acidifier has not been able to increase the weight of the small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum) in kampung chickens.
