Abstract

Anemia mostly occurs in adolescent girls due to nutrient deficiencies which are influenced by the knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls about anemia and nutrition. Providing nutrition education through flash card media is one of the efforts in improving the knowledge and attitudes of adolescents about anemia. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of nutrition education using flash card media on increasing the knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls about anemia at MTs Negeri 1 Muaradua. This research is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental research design, using a control group approach by measuring pre-test and post-test. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. The subjects in this study consisted of 68 female students who were divided into 34 experimental group students and 34 control group students. The experimental group carried out nutrition education with flash card media and the control group with power point media. The results of the Wilcoxon Rank Test statistical test analysis in the experimental and control groups obtained a p-value = 0.000 (<0.50) on the knowledge and attitude variables, which means that there is an influence before and after providing nutrition education with flash card and powerpoint media. Before nutrition education was conducted, the knowledge and attitudes of the experimental and control groups were mostly in the poor category, and after nutrition education in the experimental and control groups there were changes in knowledge and attitudes, namely in the moderate and good categories. Statistical results using the Mann Whitney test on the knowledge variable obtained a value of p = 0.000 and on the attitude variable obtained a value of p = 0.031 which means there is a significant difference, flash card media has a higher mean rank value compared to powerpoint media on knowledge and attitudes of anemia in adolescent girls at MTs Negeri 1 Muaradua. Suggestions in this study are that schoolgirls are expected to increase knowledge through social media that is easily accessible at this time and routinely hold discussions with friends to share information obtained.
