Abstract

This research was aimed to find the most appropriate extraction technique to produce high quality pumpkin seeds (Cucurbita moschata D.). This research was conducted in August 2023 at the Seed Technology Laboratory of Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 3 replicates resulting in total 18 experimental units, each experimental unit contained 1 tray consisting of 20 seeds. The treatments in this study included: A (flowing water); B (80°C hot water); C (1.5% HCl); D (1.5% H2SO4); E (rice husk ash 100 gr/100 grains); F (quick lime 100 gr/100 seeds). The research results indicated that the use of the method of extraction washed with flowing water (A) showed the best results in various parameters of germination rate, maximum growth potential, growth rate, plant height, root length, fresh root weight, and dry root weight. Meanwhile, the treatment of extraction rubbed using quick lime 100 gr/100 seeds (F) showed the best results in parameters of fresh shoot weight, dry shoot weight, and vigor index.
