Abstract

Lawsonia inermis is a medicinal herb that has been used to remedy sore throats, fevers, wounds and diarrhea. The ethanol extract of henna wood leaves is reported to be anti-inflammatory active. The efficacy of henna wood leaves as an anti-wound drug is related to its ability as an anti-inflammatory and analgetic. Compounds that provide anti-inflammatory activity are generally flavonoids and phenolic groups. Extraction of henna wood leaves is carried out using solvents with increased polarity (n-hexane and ethyl acetate) and then concentrated, resulting in viscous fractions of n-hexane and ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate fraction is then tested for anti-inflammatory and analgetic activity. Anti-inflammatory parameters observed volume of swelling of the soles of the feet in carrageenan-induced test animals using pletismometer, analgetic activity using hot plate method with observation of latency time. The test was conducted with 5 treatment groups, the analgetic positive control group was given diclofenac sodium and anti-inflammatory aspirin, the negative group was given NaCMC solution, the test group was given ethyl acetate fractions doses of 200, 400, and 800 mg/kgBB. The results of the study of ethyl acetate fraction dose 800 mg/kgBB provided the highest anti-inflammatory activity compared to other doses with percent inhibition 68.91% higher than the positive control dose aspirin dose 100mg with percent inhibition 48.62%. Testing the analgetic activity of ethyl acetate fraction of henna wood leaves at a dose of 800 mg/kgBB also provided the highest analgetic activity compared to other doses with an analgetic percent of 17.03% which was almost the same as a positive control with an analgetic percent of 17.70%.
