Abstract
Acne vulgaris is often a skin problem that can be caused by the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes. A natural ingredient that can inhibit the growth of P. acnes bacteria is Thymoquinone which is contained in black cumin oil. A combination of HPMC as a gelling agent and black cumin oil as an anti-acne with 3 kinds of formulas with different concentrations of HPMC and black cumin. The aim of this research is to evaluate the characteristics and physical properties of gel cream preparations and to find out whether the cream formulation meets the physical stability requirements. The gel cream combination of HPMC and black cumin oil is made using the cycling test method. The characteristics of the physical tests carried out include organoleptic tests, pH, homogeneity, spreadability and viscosity tests. Meanwhile, the physical stability test was carried out at three different temperature conditions, namely room temperature, high temperature and low temperature. The research results showed that the HPMC combination gel cream met the organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH value between 5.39 - 5.52, half- spreadability (5-5.4 cm). Meanwhile, for the results of the cycling test, the black cumin gel cream preparation is only the F3 preparation which is optimal. This research aims to formulate and characterize an anti-acne gel cream preparation containing black cumin oil extract (Nigella sativa). Characterization of physical preparations is carried out through a series of tests, including organoleptic tests, pH, homogeneity, spreadability, viscosity and hedonic tests.
