Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi temperatur terhadap nilai kekerasan material menggunakan mesin uji Vickers pada baja ST 42 yang telah diberi perlakuan Normalizing. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian eksperimental dengan tujuan mengetahui sebab akibat berdasarkan percobaan yang dilakukan secara langsung atas perlakuan yang diberikan. Variasi temperatur yang digunakan adalah 770⁰C, 870⁰C dan 970⁰C, serta spesimen uji tanpa perlakuan Normalizing. Media pendingin pada penelitian ini menggunakan pendinginan udara, sehingga pendinginannya akan menurunkan panas pada spesimen uji secara perlahan-lahan. Proses Normalizing dilakukan pada Workshop Pendidikan teknik Mesin Universitas Sriwijaya, kemudian proses pengujian Vikers dilakukan di laboratorium metallurgi Teknik Mesin Universitas Sriwijaya. Berdasarkan studi penelitian ini, di dapatkan kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini setelah setelah dilakukan pengujian vickers adalah: variasi temperatur yang berbeda-beda dapat mempengaruhi nilai kekerasan pada baja ST 42, nilai paling tinggi pada spesimen ini yaitu 183,708 kgf/mm² berbanding terbalik dengan spesimen uji yang telah dilakukan Normalizing Variasi temperatur tertinggi yaitu pada temperatur 970⁰C dengan nilai 97,968 kgf/mm².
