Abstract

Many industries, especially in the oil and gas company, pump is very important to support in growth, development and improvement o f their activities. The function of a pump is to move the fluid from one place to another with the needed capacity and pressure. PT Pertamina Refinery Unit III Plaju as an oil and gas company which supports Refmering Crude oil into petroleum products and non petroleum products. Crude buthane pump (P.30 A/B) which contained at Crude Destiller and Gas Plant Unit has an important part in pumping crude buthane product from acumulator tank 8-9 Crude Destiller Unit II to buffer vessel 9-19 / 9-2, then from that vessel the oil is pumped again as a feed BB destilation unit. PT Pertamina (Persero) then distributes oil and gas products distributes to customers. In the use, pump isn’t always operated based on design condition and life time of pump. As the result of that, the pump 4 s performance will decrease.in order to maintain the reliability of the crude buthane pump, the crude buthane pump (P.30 A/B) will be evaluated based on existing piping system which is the system that 4s been used 20 years old and average production of crude buthane is 40 tons of the day. The evaluation of crude buthane (P.30 A/B) pumping system requires supporting data such as design and operational data by performing research or direct supervising on the field to calculate the loss in the piping system, pumping system head, Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH) avaliable, and efficiency power of pump by using the equations that have been learnt. The result of the crude buthane (P.30 A/B) pumping system evaluation is used on Q=0,00068 m3/s pump capacity, to achieve it the pump operation need s to perform throttling and as the consecuence of this throttling the based efficiency on 18 % (best efficiency point) will be decreased to 6,9 %. The NPSH required by the pump is 0,89m and NPSH available is 2,82m, since the NPSHa > NPSHr then the pump is free of cavitation. Calculation of fluid power required based on the capacity and existing piping system is 0,56 kW and the speciflcation data is 20 hp (14,92 kW). The result of pump efficiency calculation is 5,17 % and specification data is 6,9 %. It shows that the pump that is used now is fa* ffom design condition, uneconomical and the pump selection is wrong and th efficiency of the pump has decreased.
