Abstract

The need for environmentally friendly alternative energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent amidst climate change issues and the limitations of fossil energy resources. One promising solution is the use of micro-scale wind power plants (WPP). This research aims to design, build, and test a micro-scale wind power plant prototype as an alternative energy source for mobile phone battery charging. The designed prototype uses an L-type Savonius wind turbine, known for its ability to operate at low wind speeds and having good self-starting characteristics. Testing was conducted under two conditions: without load and with a mobile phone load. Measurement results showed that the prototype was able to generate a voltage between 6.81 V to 8.33 V in no-load conditions, and between 3.89 V to 5.06 V when connected to a mobile phone load, with power ranging from 0.0778 Watts to 0.253 Watts. Data analysis indicates that the power generated by this prototype is sufficient to detect battery charging by the mobile phone but is not enough to significantly charge the mobile phone battery, as the minimum power required for significant charging is 5 Watts. Keywords— Wind Energy, Micro-Scale Wind Power Plant, Savonius Turbine, Mobile Phone Battery Charging
