Abstract

This study aims to determine the concentration of KNO3 and the best use of light in breaking seed dormancy and germination of rice (Oryza sativa L) seeds variety inpari 32 in the after-ripening period. This research was conducted at the Seed Technology Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra in November 2023. This study used the method of Randomized Factorial Design with 2 factors. The first factor is KNO3 concentration (K) with six treatments, K0 as a control with 0% KNO3 concentration; K1 (0.1%); K2 (0.2%); K3 (0.3%); K4 (0.4%) and K5 (0.5%). The second factor is the use of light (C) with 2 treatments, C1 (with light) and C2 (without light). These two factors resulted in 12 treatment combinations that were repeated 3 times, resulting in 36 treatment units. Data obtained from the results were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). If there is a significant difference, it will be continued with the BNT test at the 5% level. The observation parameters in this study were germination power (%), seed growth speed (%), seed growth uniformity (%), maximum growth potential (%), sprout length (cm) and sprout dry weight (g). The results of this study showed that the treatments given had a very significant effect on the parameters of germination, seed growth speed and seed growth uniformity and had a significant effect on maximum growth potential, but had no significant effect on the length of the sprouts and the dry weight of the sprouts. The treatment with 0.4% KNO3 concentration is the best treatment that has the highest mean value in all observation parameters. Keywords: After-ripening, Inpari 32, KNO3, Seed dormancy.
