Abstract

The availability of forages is generally not comparable to the needs and population of existing livestock. The quality of high and low grasslands is closely related to the production of forages found in grasslands. While the density of livestock causes the availability of forage available in the pasture does not meet all livestock. This study aims to determine the production of forage swamps as feed for sustainable Pampang buffalo in Rambutan Regency, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatera. This study was held start from until August until September 2018. The observed variables were the types of vegetation in swampy land, forage production and grazing pasture capacity. This study used by Halls methods, witch used by plot size 1m2 were capturing forage samples for knowing the species and production of swamp forage. The result of this study showed there were 11species of forage vegetation, includes 10 species of swamp grasses and 1 species of legume. The types of vegetation in grazing pasture Pampangan buffaloes of swampy land were founded, such as: Kumpai Tembaga (Hymenache acutigluma), Kasuran (Cyperus digitatus), Purun Tikus (Eleocharis dulcis), Kumpai Padi (Oryza rupifogon), Kumpai Minyak (Hymenachne amplexicaulis), Bento Rayap (Leersia hexandra), Kerak Maling (Digitaria fuscenscens), Berondong (Rhynchospora corymbosa. L), Apit-apit (Cyperus chephalotes. Vahl), Cengkehan (Ludwigia hyssopifolia (G.Don), Kemon Air (Neptunia oleracea. Lour). Forage production in Rambutan Subdistrict swamp is 2,228.4 g / m2 or 2.2 kg / m2 with an average of 0.2 kg / m2 or 2 tons / ha in 1 harvest. Capacity in the grazing area of Rambutan Subdistrict is 1.61 ST / ha / year. The increase in the number of livestock in the Rambutan Village is projected at 0.55 ST / ha, in Baru Village it is projected at 0.08 ST / ha while in Durian Gadis Village it is projected at 0.12 ST / ha.
