Abstract

Composite resin is placed into the cavity with a depth of 2 mm using an incremental technique, and requires a relatively long time. Bulk fill composite resin is the development of coventional composite resin which can be placed into the cavity up to 4 mm depth in one stage. Addition of irradiation time can increase the degree of conversion, which will affect the mechanical properties. This study aims to determine the effect of irradiation time on surface hardness of bulk fill composite resin. Thirty samples were divided into 3 groups, with 3 irradiation times namely group A (20 seconds), B (30 seconds), and C (40 seconds). Each sample is cured using a light curing unit with an intensity of 1000-1200 Mw/cm2, then the surface hardness is measured using Vickers hardness. The mean of surface hardness of group A was 73.101 ± 6.94061, B 87,644 ± 4,33339, and C (111,827 ± 13,15363). The results of statistical test showed that there are significant differences in surface hardness among all groups. The conclusion of this study is that if the longer the irradiation time, the higher surface hardness.
