Abstract
The objective of this research was to know the influence of various organic compounds on the growth and yield of melon (Cucumis melo L.). The research held on July 2007 until October 2007, at research station Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University at Indralaya. The method of the research was Randomized Block Design, with five treatments and five replications. Each experimental unit consists of five plants, so the total of plants were 125. The treatments were P0 = without organic compound, P1 = chicken manure (40% v/v), P2 - cow manure (40% v/v), P3 = water hyacinth bokashi (40% v/v) and P4 = rice stalk bokashi (40% v/v). Parameters observed were plant lenght, chloropyl containts, number of pistil and stamen, leaf width sample, fruit weight, fruit diameter, fresh weight and dissolved solid substances. The result showed that the various organic compounds influened significantly on fruit weight, fruit diameter and dissolved solid substances, and significant on the plant length but not significant on chloropyl contains, number of pistil and stamen, leaf width sample and fresh weight. The aplication of various organic substances amounting to 40% at media could increase the growth and yield of melon. The application of the water hyacinth amounting to 40% at media gave the highest weight of fruit compared by the other treatment.
