Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between economic growth and environmental quality in the Mineral Economic Province in Indonesia. The data used in this study are the secondary data obtained from the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Ministry of the Environment covering period of 2015-2022. The analytical method used is a simultaneous equation model with the Two Stage-Least Squares (2SLS) approach. The results of this study show that in model 1, the economic growth is significantly influenced by exogenous variables such as environmental quality index, energy consumption, provit sharing fund, investment and population. In model 2, the environmental quality is significantly influenced by exogenous variables such as economic growth, mining output,energy consumption and forest cover area. This study reveals that in the Mineral Economic Provinces in Indonesia, good environmental quality can increas economic growth, while increasing economic growth can reduce environmental quality.
