Abstract

This study discusses "The Role of Parents in Child Marriage in Lumpatan II Village, Sekayu District, Musi Banyuasin Regency." The objective of this research is to analyze and understand the role of parents in child marriage in Lumpatan II Village, Sekayu District, Musi Banyuasin Regency. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. The selection of informants was done using purposive sampling. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation. The data analysis techniques included data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study conclude that parents have applied eight family functions, namely, the religious function, socio-cultural function, affection function, protection function, reproductive function, socialization and education function, economic function, and environmental development function. The religious function applied by parents is based on Islam; the socio-cultural function aligns with the culture of Lumpatan II Village; the affection function differs before and after the child marries; the protection function remains consistent; the reproductive function is not extensively applied by parents to their children; the socialization and education function ensures that all children receive schooling, although some do not complete their education, while others graduate but do not pursue higher education; the economic function involves parents providing some assistance to their children even after they have their own families; and the environmental development function involves shaping individuals into independent adults when they start their own families.
