Abstract

This study aims to determine differences in the quality of life of the pre-elderly population according to gender in the Timbangan village, Ogan Ilir district. This research is a quantitative descriptive study that uses a comparative approach to compare the quality of life of male pre-elderly and female pre-elderly residents in the Timbangan village. The research sample was the pre-elderly population (45-59 years) in the Timbangan village as many as 143 respondents consisting of 70 male respondents and 73 female respondents. Data analysis techniques in this study consisted of data editing, data tabulation, scoring, normality test, reliability test, and comparison test using mann whitney test. The results of data testing show that there are differences in the quality of life of the pre-elderly population according to gender in the Timbangan village. The quality of life of the pre-elderly population in Timbangan village is seen from four dimensions, namely physical health, social relationships, psychological well-being, and the environment. The highest percentage lies in the physical health dimension while the lowest percentage is in the psychological well-being dimension. When viewed according to age groups, the quality of life of pre-elderly people in Timbangan village tends to decrease from the age group 45-49 years to the age group 55-59 years. Pre-elderly residents in Timbangan village are expected to further improve their quality of life, especially in the dimension of psychological well-being, namely by doing more positive things, actively moving, and respecting themselves more.
