Abstract
Breast milk is an emulsion of fat in a solution of protein, lactose and inorganic salts produced by the mother's mammary glands, and is useful as food for babies with complex nutrition that suits the baby's needs. Only 56.9% of babies under 6 months receive exclusive breastfeeding. One of the factors causing this is the lack of smooth breast milk production. Efforts are made to increase the smooth production of breast milk by consuming foods containing lactagogum, namely papaya. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of consuming papaya juice on the smooth production of breast milk in breastfeeding mothers in the Namang Community Health Center Work Area in 2024. This research uses a quantitative type of research with a Quasi Experimental design with a two group pretest posttest research. Observations were made on the smoothness of breast milk production as seen from the baby's indicators before treatment and a second observation after treatment was given. The sample used in this study was 40 mothers breastfeeding babies aged 0-6 months (20 people in the intervention group and 20 people in the control group). Sampling used the purposive sampling method. Primary data collection took the form of observing the smoothness of breast milk production in the intervention group and control group. Statistical analysis was carried out using univariate and bivariate analysis. The results of the statistical test using Chi Square showed that there was an increase in the smoothness of breast milk production in the intervention group of 3 glasses of papaya juice per day before and after with a p-value of 0.020. There is a relationship between the food intake of breastfeeding mothers and the smooth production of breast milk with a p-value of 0.001. The conclusion was that the intervention group experienced a greater increase in the smoothness of breast milk production compared to the control group. It is hoped that this research can provide additional information for respondents in increasing the smoothness of breast milk production during the breastfeeding period by consuming foods that can facilitate breast milk production, such as papaya juice.
