Abstract

Gadgets can be the biggest problem in the era of globalization, in which parents take the initiative to give and buy gadgets for their children because they are busy with their work, so parents assume that their children will not feel lonely without their presence. This problem requires efforts to develop educational programs. One intervention that can be carried out to increase parents' knowledge about the use of gadgets is health education using flip sheets as media. The objective of this study was to reveal whether there were differences in parental knowledge between before and after the intervention was given. This study used a pre-experimental research design with a one group pretest-posttest design. Probability sampling was used resulting in a sample size of 38 respondents. Parental knowledge in this study was measured using a questionnaires. The results of the study using a paired sample t test showed that there was an influence of knowledge before and after being given health education through flip sheets. The average knowledge score of respondents before and after being given health education using flip sheet media was -2.842 with a standard deviation of 1.717. The results of the paired sample t-test obtained a p value of 0.000 (p   0.05), indicating health education using flip sheets influenced parents’ knowledge about the use of gadgets in pre-school children. The average score of parents' knowledge before being given health education using flip-sheet media was 6.76. Whereas, the average score of parents' knowledge after being given health education using flip-sheet media was 9.61.
