Abstract

Stenochlaena palustris (Burm. f.) Bedd., known as swamp fern, is currently causing problems in oil palm plantations. This weed has the ability to regenerate by forming swiftly and dominating colonies. Cuticle thickness in the form of a waxy layer can inhibit herbicide penetration and reduce its toxic effects on S. palustris weeds. This study aims to evaluate the effect of surfactants on the effectiveness and efficiency of weed control and identify the most suitable surfactant type. The research method involved conducting greenhouse and field experiments, combining ammonium glufosinate and methyl metsulfuron herbicides with various surfactant active ingredients. The results showed that the addition of surfactants to ammonium glufosinate and methyl metsulfuron herbicides was able to increase the penetration of herbicides on the leaf surface of S. palustris weeds. Ammonium glufosinate and methyl metsulfuron herbicide treatments supplemented with surfactants can cause significant damage to S. palustris weeds and
