Abstract

This research has successfully developed an innovative learning model, PjBL-STEM based on online games that is effective for improving students' critical thinking skills on energy and its changes. This research refers to a mixed method with a sequential explanatory design. Quantitative data was obtained by conducting a critical thinking skills test. Qualitative data was obtained by observing students during learning. The project products of all groups have fulfilled the STEM aspects and critical thinking skills aspects. The average pretest score of the experimental class students was 44.79, while the average post-test score was 76.56. When compared, there appears to be an increase in students' critical thinking skills. Based on the results of learning observations, it can be seen that students are active in participating in learning activities in all three learning phases, namely the initial project process, the design process, and the implementation and evaluation process. The T-test results on the average posttest scores between the control class and the experimental class showed Sig. (2-tailed): p < 0.05, which means there is a significant difference. The results of the effectiveness test of the implementation of PjBL-STEM based on online games on energy and its changes in the experimental class showed an N-gain of 0.60 and included in the effective category. The conclusion of this study is that the PjBL-STEM learning model based on online games on energy and its changes is effective for improving the critical thinking skills of junior high school students.
