Abstract
The objectives of this study were to find out whether or not there was a significant effect of using REAP (READ, ENCODE, ANNOTATE, PONDER) strategy and scientific approach on reading skill of exposition text of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya Utara. The research method which was used in this study was quasi experiment method. The sample of this study consist of two classes, they are VIII A that amount 29 students as the first experiment class and VIII D that amount 29 students as the second experiment class. The first experiment class is class that using REAP (Read, Encode, Annotate, Ponder) strategy, and the second experiment class is class that using scientific approach. The accumulation data technique using test technique and data management technique using calculation test-t with the SPSS 20 program. The results of this study showed that there was a significant differences between the first experiment class and the second experiment class. The average score of pretest on the first experiment class is 61,93 and the posttest is 86,76. The average score of pretest on the second experiment class is 57,00 and the posttest is 75,21. This indicate there was raising as 24,83 on the first experiment class and 18,21 on the second experiment class. The results of this study showed that raising of the first experiment class was higher than the second experiment class. The data analysis with test-t indicate that t-hitung > t-tabel = 7,117 >2,003 with df=56 on significant grade 95% (α=0,025). With accepted Ha that sounds “There was a differences between students that teached by the REAP (Read, Encode, Annotate, Ponder) method on comprehension skill of exposition text of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya Utara (µ1 = µ1)” accepted. In conclusion, REAP (Read, Encode, Annotate, Ponder) strategy more effect on comprehension skill of exposition text of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya Utara Utara.
