Abstract

The parenting pattern applied by parents in educating children is one of the factors that can influence the development of children's emotional intelligence. In Sumber Rejo Village, parents' knowledge about parenting styles and the importance of stimulating children's emotional intelligence is very limited. There are some children who are aggressive and whose emotional intelligence is not well developed. This is the strong reason for this research. The aim of the research is to determine the relationship between democratic parenting styles and the emotional intelligence of children aged (5-6) years in Sumber Rejo Village, East OKU Belitang II District. This research method uses a quantitative correlational design approach, sampling in this research was carried out using a saturated sampling technique. The research sample used 20 parents who had children aged (5-6) years. Data collection techniques use questionnaires and observation sheets. The data analysis technique uses the Pearson product moment correlation test. The results obtained by rcount, namely (0.985), are greater than > rtable, namely (0.468). So Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. This states that there is a positive relationship with a very strong level of relationship between democratic parenting and the emotional intelligence of children aged (5-6) years in Sumber Rejo Village. Thus, parents need to implement a democratic parenting style to stimulate children's emotional intelligence from an early age.
