Abstract

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a benign prostate enlargement that is common in elderly men. Drug therapy is the main choice treatment of BPH, but patients are susceptible to non-compliance due to long-term treatment or side effects of drugs. Non-compliance with drug use can affect the patient's quality of life. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between drug compliance and quality of life of BPH patients at Siti Fatimah Hospital, South Sumatra Province. The study design used was observational with a cross-sectional approach. Respondents consisted of 30 patients who met the inclusion criteria. The level of compliance of BPH patients in using drugs was in the moderate category of 14 people (47%) with an average score of 6,5. The quality of life of BPH patients was in the moderate category of 22 people (73%) with an average score of 63,9. The lowest average domain value in domain 1 related to physical health. The results of study showed a fairly strong relationship between drug compliance and quality of life of BPH patients with a correlation coefficient of 0.397. This shows that the relationship is positive and unidirectional. Data from the output of the Kendall's Tau-B correlation test has a significance value of 0.022, which means that there is a significant relationship between compliance and quality of life. The results of this study can be concluded that increasing compliance with drug use affects the quality of life of BPH patients at Siti Fatimah Hospital, South Sumatra Province.
