Abstract

Waste is still an environmental issue worldwide. Waste separation from the source have a major contribution to an effective waste management. The lack of role of households in sorting their waste affects the behavior in separating organic and inorganic waste. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with the community behavior in implementing the household’s organic and inorganic waste sorting in Palembang City. This research was quantitative using a cross sectional design using with 118 respondents who were selected by multistage sampling technique. Data were analyzed univariately (to analyze the frequency of variables), bivariately (to analyze the relationship between variables) using the Chi Square test, and multivariately using multiple logistic regression tests with prediction model The bivariate analysis showed there is a relationship between attitude (<0.001), family support (<0.001), knowledge (0.004), facilities (0.005), and regulation (0.049) and there was no relationship between education level (0.091) and economic level (0.742) on household organic and inorganic waste sorting behavior The multivariate analysis show that attitude is the dominant factor influencing waste sorting behavior with PR = 82.134. It is concluded that community behavior in implementing household organic and inorganic waste segregation is dominantly influenced by attitudes, and is also influenced by family support, knowledge, facilities, and regulation. Increasing the knowledge and awareness of the individuals, families, and the government or related agencies could be done. The government/relevant agencies either national and local scopes initiatively make programs such as socialization and require each household to implement waste separation
