Abstract
Based on data from the Jambi Provincial Health Office in 2021, there was 153,627 cases of hypertension. Hypertension can occur due to pesticide poisoning in the palm oil plantation. Hypertension is caused by exposure to pesticides that bind the acetylcholinestrase enzyme through dermal, oral or inhalation routes into the human body resulting in increased blood pressure. This study aims to analyze the relationship between individual characteristics (age, gender, tenure, length of service) and worker behavior (spraying direction, spraying frequency and completeness of PPE) on the incidence of hypertension at PT Kurnia Sawit Yanto Bersaudara. This research is a quantitative study using a cross sectional research design with purposive sampling technique. The population in this study were 105 respondents with a sample of 95 respondents aged 18-75 years who worked as sprayers at PT Kurnia Sawit Yanto Bersaudara. Data analysis in this study used statistical software with the chi-square test or fisher exact test and multiple logistic regression test. The results of the chi-square test showed that there was a relationship between age (p-value=0.001), gender (p-value=0.026), length of service (p-value=0.022), length of work (p-value=0.036), spraying frequency (p-value=0.016), spraying direction (p-value=0.010) and PPE completeness (p-value=0.011) on the incidence of hypertension in workers at PT Kurnia Sawit Yanto Bersaudara. The results of multiple logistic regression test analysis showed that the PPE completeness variable was the most dominant factor influencing the incidence of hypertension with p-value=0.022; PR=19.330; CI=1.536-243.225. It is concluded that the most risky factor associated with the incidence of hypertension in spraying workers at PT Kurnia Sawit Yanto Bersaudara is the completeness of PPE. It is recommended to always use complete PPE in the form of long pants, long clothes, masks, hats, gloves, boots and glasses when spraying to avoid exposure to pesticides to the body of workers.
